I recently read an article by Matt Kaplan entitled "Why great ideas come when you aren't trying" on nature.com. Solutions to projects that I have worked on have rarely came while sitting in front of a computer, or even a sketchbook. The ideas usually come to me while on a walk, mowing the yard, or carving a piece of wood. They do make into a sketchbook to further the idea, but don't start there. Turns out that zoning out may allow the mind to wonder and aid in creativity and design solutions.
